MBABANE – The Kingdom of Eswatini was well represented at the inaugural Tri-Nations Festival that took place at ChafZar Lifestyle in Mpumalanga, South Africa, over the Easter weekend.
The festival is an ambitious showbiz explosion which saw artists from Eswatini, South Africa and Mozambique entertaining the crowds. Five genres and shows featured during the long weekend: Comedy, Gospel, Soul and RnB, car spinning and an after-party where DJs were spinning the discs.
Flying the flag high for the kingdom were the likes of award-winning Gospel singers Nothando Hlophe and Linda Dlamini, who performed on Easter Friday, April 3, at the Tri-Nations Gospel Music Concert.
The two performed alongside popular South African Gospel singers who included Benjamin Dube and Dumi Mkokstad.
Opening the festival on April 2 at a Tri-Nations Comedy Night show were some of Eswatini’s most celebrated comedians: Gogo na S’lwane, Mdura and Gedlembane, who made sure that they had room in giggles and laughter.
On the Soul and RnB front, hoisting the country’s flag at the Tri-Nations Strictly Soul and RnB show on April 4 were Sarnilo and DJ Mixmash. According to Tatenda Mandeza, known as DJ Tendaness, a Cofounder of the festival, the Soul and RnB show was by far the most successful, followed by the combo event involving car spinning and battle of the DJs.
“It is a very ambitious initiative that brings together the three countries in terms of fun and entertainment. Our post event assessment is that the Tri-Nations Festival successfully stamped its presence as an added lifestyle event on the region’s entertainment calendar,” said Vusi Mona, Chairman of ChafZar and Cofounder of the festival.
The South Africans used the show to celebrate and honour Nkosi for his 40 Years of Radio. A Metro FM icon in South Africa, Nkosi is one of Eswatini’s outstanding cultural and entertainment exports. Eswatini and South African governments’ representatives showed up to support what was a tribute show for Nkosi.
