MBABANE – The Mbabane Methodist Church Choir has once again elevated the Kingdom of Eswatini’s Choral music industry, clinching a triumphant second position at the Buang Moloto Choral Festival.
The Buang Moloto Choral Festival was held on November 1, at the Rustenburg Civic Centre in South Africa. The competition saw Mbabane Methodist Church Choir placing second out of the 15 talented choirs that competed on the day, including Gauteng Choristers, Kopano Chorus, Voices of the Nation, Ingoma Chorus and many others.
The choir’s masterful performance, which showcased a seamless blend of intricate Western compositions and vibrant African pieces, deeply impressed the adjudicators and captivated the audience. Their programme featured two songs in the Setswana language: ‘Kgalaletso’ (Gloria), performed with an orchestra and ‘O Kae’. Their dedication to musical excellence was rewarded with a significant cash prize of E100 000.
In an interview, Menzi Gule, the conductor of the Mbabane Methodist Church Choir, expressed his excitement about the achievement.
“The choir secured second place in what was a highly-contested competition in Rustenburg. To us, this means everything, the choir will be able to fund its programmes, including preparations to represent the country at the TMF-NCE finals in December. We thank our supporters for their prayers. We also thank our choristers for their hard work and commitment. As we have said before, we will continue to uphold very high performance standards,” he said.
He also highlighted that both performances scored quite highly, but ‘Kgalaletso’ received a better reception from the audience.
