Sakhile Nsibande is a name synonymous with resilience and strategic growth within Eswatini. Born and raised in a community that valued communal progress, her origins are rooted in a deep-seated desire to see her surroundings flourish.
This background provided the foundation for her current multifaceted career, which spans literature, entrepreneurship and advocacy.
Currently, Nsibande is immersed in various leadership roles that aim to bridge the gap between potential and opportunity for the emaSwati youth. She describes herself as a woman driven by purpose and a relentless pursuit of excellence.
“I believe that what defines me is my unwavering commitment to the growth of others. My identity is inextricably linked to the progress I facilitate in my community,” she states.
A Journey of Literacy and Leadership
The path to her current standing was paved with a series of deliberate ventures. Her entrepreneurial journey began with a simple observation: A lack of accessible resources for young professionals. This led her to the world of publishing, where she became a seasoned author.
Her literary works serve as a roadmap for those navigating the complexities of the modern economy.
Her involvement with the Youth Chamber marked a significant milestone in her career. Starting from its inception, her objective was clear, to create a formal structure where young entrepreneurs could receive mentorship and networking opportunities. Nsibande recalls the early days of the chamber as a period of intense learning. “The Youth Chamber was born out of a necessity to give the youth a voice in the economic landscape. Our goal has always been to ensure that every young person with a dream has the tools to make it a reality,” she explains.
Her achievements are not limited to the boardroom. She has been recognised for her contributions to social development and her ability to mobilise resources for community-based projects. These accolades, however, are viewed by Nsibande as mere indicators of the work that still needs to be done.
Defining Empowerment
For Nsibande, youth empowerment is not a buzzword but a transformative process. She views it as the act of equipping individuals with the psychological and material resources necessary to take control of their lives. In her view, empowerment impacts a person by fostering self-reliance and critical thinking.
“Empowerment is the fuel that drives innovation. When you empower a young person, you are not just helping an individual; you are investing in the future of the nation. It changes how one views obstacles, turning them into stepping stones,” Nsibande remarks.
She attributes her success to a combination of disciplined habits and a strong support system. Her reasons behind her achievements are rooted in a philosophy of continuous learning and a refusal to be deterred by failure. She maintains that success is a marathon rather than a sprint, requiring patience and a long-term perspective.
