MBABANE – A protracted leadership dispute at Mbabane Swallows Football Club has drawn in the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE), as warring factions vie for control.
The conflict, which has been simmering for some time, recently escalated with the involvement of Princess Lungile, who is challenging the current administration.
The central issue appears to be the club’s transformation from a company to an association, a change that has created two rival camps.
The faction led by Princess Lungile is questioning the legality of this transition and is determined to uncover who was responsible for the change and why it was made.
In a letter dated August 2, 2024, the PLE’s Chief Executive Officer, Petros Vilakati, had responded to a query from Princess Lungile. Vilakati’s letter confirmed that the official forms submitted to the PLE by Mbabane Swallows list the club as an association.
The forms name Absalom Ngwenya as acting director, Sandile S. Zwane as governor and Wellie Mabuza as chairman. This information was reportedly discussed at a meeting of Princess Lungile’s faction at Madlenya House.
