MBABANE – Capital city giants Mbabane Swallows head coach Caleb Ngwenya has shifted his team’s focus towards a relentless pursuit of maximum points as they enter the final seven matches of the league campaign.
Ngwenya has signalled a clear intent for the remainder of the season, revealing his ambition to secure a high points haul to solidify their standing. Addressing the media during a pre-match interview, at Sigwaca House yesterday, ahead of their clash with Ezulwini United, Ngwenya expressed confidence in his squad’s readiness.
“Regarding the match against Ezulwini, the boys will play well; hopefully, they will be focused and ready for the game. In the seven matches left, we will aim to get as many points as we can,” he stated.
While the coach is optimistic, he admitted that the ‘Beautiful Birds’ are currently navigating significant physical hurdles. The squad’s depth is being tested by several non-minor injuries, most notably that of Mancoba ‘Nciba’ Vilakati.
“As a team, we have the challenge of injuries that are not minor, such as Mancoba ‘Nciba’ Vilakati, who is still out. We have missed him in the second round,” Ngwenya explained, though he maintained that the available players are prepared to step up and perform.
The atmosphere in the Swallows dressing room has been significantly lifted by a recent surge in offensive form. Goalkeeper Bongiswa ‘Romario’ Dlamini highlighted the psychological boost provided by their midweek scoring spree.
“Scoring more goals on Wednesday raised our momentum and motivated us for the upcoming game. What we do in training is proving beneficial,” Dlamini remarked. However, he noted that Ngwenya is keeping the players grounded to avoid tactical errors: “Our coach also emphasised composure, as we have a tendency of rushing.”
The pressure is equally high for Ezulwini United, where Coach Musa Manyatsi is working tirelessly to prepare his side for the immense challenge of facing a league heavyweight. Manyatsi acknowledged the magnitude of the task, but remains focused on a strong finish.
“It is going to be a tough game and we are preparing to an extent that deserves the status of Mbabane Swallows,” Manyatsi said. “There has been too much pressure on the team. I am still trying to monitor them so we can finish in a respectable position.”
The two sides will lock horns tomorrow at the Mavuso Sports Centre, with the match scheduled to take place 4pm.
