MBABANE – As more local footballers seek opportunities beyond Eswatini’s borders, Young Buffaloes Captain Siboniso ‘Gaxa’ Ngwenya has reportedly declined a move abroad.

The highly-rated versatile grafter is understood to have turned down an approach from Zimbabwe Castle Premier Soccer League newcomers, Agama, despite reports that terms had already been agreed between the two clubs.

Sources close to the matter alleged that Agama had proposed a transfer package worth about US$15 000 (over E240 000), alongside a signing-on fee of US$10 000 (more than E150 000) and a monthly salary exceeding US$2 000 (about E30 000).

The Zimbabwean outfit had reportedly also arranged travel for Ngwenya to undergo medical assessments.

However, the move failed to materialise after the player opted against pursuing it, reportedly citing personal reasons.

Had the transfer gone through, Ngwenya would have become only the second Young Buffaloes player to secure a move outside Eswatini since 2023, following the departure of Lindo ‘Bhabhalazi’ Mkhonta to Zambian giants ZESCO United.

Ngwenya, who joined Young Buffaloes in 2017, has established himself as one of the club’s key figures and has also represented the national team, Sihlangu Semnikati, where he has found the back of the net.

Speaking to this publication yesterday, the defender confirmed that an offer had been discussed.

“It is true that there was an offer and I did not accept it due to some issues. However, I was not involved much as the team dealt directly with superiors,” said Ngwenya.

Young Buffaloes Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sandile Gwebu offered a different account, insisting that no formal offer had been received.
