MBABANE – Local and international athletes have a massive incentive to lace up their running shoes.
The Yesuka Twe Half Marathon has announced a total prize purse of nearly E50 000 for its upcoming edition next Saturday (May 2).
In a major boost for the local athletics scene, organisers have confirmed major prize increases for the event scheduled for May 2, 2026. The 21km champion’s prize has been hiked by E1 500, meaning the winners in both the male and female categories will now walk away with E4 000.
The 10km winners have also seen an increase, with their take-home prize rising to E2 000. The race, which starts and finishes at the Zakhele Sports Ground in Manzini, offers categories for all levels, including a 21km half-marathon, a 10km run and a 5km walk or run.
Beyond the elite podium finishes, the event caters extensively to various age groups, with cash prizes of E500, E400 and E300 reserved for juniors, veterans, masters and grand masters across the different distances.
VOC Station Director, Bishop Zachariah Mthethwa, has extended a warm invitation to all emaSwati, urging churches, companies and families to join the movement.
“Exercise is vital for health and fitness,” Mthethwa noted, encouraging a massive turnout from the clergy and the general public alike.
To sweeten the deal for corporate and social groups, a special prize of E2 000 is up for grabs for the team with the biggest turnout. The 21km route will challenge runners with a double-lap course through areas including Mathayini, KaShali and Ngwane Park, while the 5km participants will take a shorter scenic loop through Sihlahleni and Ludwala.
Prospective runners are urged to move quickly, as the registration deadline is set for April 27, 2026 (next Monday). The first 1 000 participants to sign up will receive exclusive goodie bags.
