PIGG’S PEAK – Eswatini sensation Kwakhe ‘Stopper’ Thwala is bracing for the biggest test of his career next month.
Thwala’s club, Zimbabwean giants Scottland FC, were drawn against Kaizer Chiefs in the 2026 Toyota Cup. The Toyota Cup in South Africa is an annual pre-season club football fixture launched in 2024. Organised through a major partnership between Kaizer Chiefs and Toyota South Africa Motors, the showpiece serves as a high-profile preparatory event ahead of the domestic league season.
Dubbed the ‘Mamelodi Sundowns of Zimbabwe’, Scottland’s blockbuster clash against the Soweto giants was confirmed yesterday afternoon at the official tournament launch at the Kaizer Chiefs Village in Naturena.
Thwala has quickly established himself as an indispensable full-back since moving to the Zimbabwean champions a few months ago. His stellar performances have helped propel Scottland to second in the Castle Premier League, sitting on 31 points after 16 games.
The squad is also motivated by a massive incentive from club boss Pedzai ‘Scott’ Sakupwanya, who recently promised over E80 000 in bonuses for each player if they occupy pole position after their next match.
The high-stakes fixture comes amid intense speculation regarding Thwala’s future. Chiefs Football Manager Bobby Motaung was recently spotted in Harare watching Scottland’s clash against CAPS United, fuelling reports that Amakhosi are preparing a swoop for the defender ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
