MANZINI– Eswatini international and Zambia giants club ZESCO United seasoned defender Lindo ‘Bhabhalazi’ Mkhonta is striking it rich.

Reports suggest that the seasoned full-back will earn around E60 000 per month excluding bonuses in his new deal. This follows a recent two-year contract extension. This suggests that from his salary alone, he will make over E1.4 million for his time at ZESCO.

It is said he agreed to a signing-on fee of over E500 000 before officially committing to a two-year deal with the Ndola-based outfit last week Monday. Before the new deal, he was reportedly earning over E30 000 per month.

It was reliably gathered that following the departure of Dennis Nya at ZESCO, the right-footed star has taken over as captain of the club.

The defender, who captained the Eswatini national team, Sihlangu, had joined the Zambian side in 2023 on a three-year deal that has just expired. He made the move to the Ndola-based outfit from Young Buffaloes, a team affiliated with the Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force (UEDF).

Mkhonta is one of seven Eswatini internationals currently playing outside the country. The others include Justice Figareido, who plays for Richards Bay in South Africa’s Betway Premiership but expected to join Chippa United.

They include Banele ‘Pupu’ Sikhondze of Tanzania’s Tabora United; Banele ‘Stiga’ Ndzabandzaba with Police XI; Mxolisi Mkhonto at Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy; Morgan Thomas, who plays for Evercity in England and Alakhe Mdluli, who is part of Amazulu’s reserve team in South Africa.
