MANZINI — Somewhere, one imagines Luthando Kunene smiling down, as  Mbabane Highlanders delivered a performance of grit and poignancy, securing a narrow yet priceless victory over Malanti Chiefs.

Highlanders held their nerve to claim a 1–0 triumph, extending their unbeaten run to six matches, while condemning Chiefs to a troubling fifth consecutive outing without victory.

It was a result laced with significance – both on and off the pitch.

The Black Bull, who last tasted defeat in a 4–2 reverse to Nsingizini Hotspurs on Valentine’s Day, continue to gather momentum at a crucial juncture of the campaign.

Malanti, meanwhile, have struggled for traction since their last win on March 1 against Ezulwini United.

History, too, leaned in Highlanders’ favour. This marked their eighth victory over the visitors since 2014—a fixture that continues to tilt towards the black and gold. For ‘Bafana Bemboyi’, it was another bitter chapter, one that drags them deeper into the relegation mire, now perilously positioned just four places above the bottom.

For Highlanders, beyond the arithmetic of three points, this was an afternoon of tribute. A fitting farewell to Superfan Luthando Kunene, whose passion embodied the spirit of the club, and perhaps a symbolic new dawn under incoming Public Relations Officer (PRO) Thabiso ‘Touch’ Manyatsi.
