MANZINI – Tensions ran high across some grounds this past weekend as the MTN Premier League entered the second week, serving up the first disciplinary issues of the campaign.
Tempers boiled over at the Mavuso Sports Centre during the showdown between Manzini Sea Birds and Mbabane Highlanders, with two Sea Birds players given an early shower.
As is typical of meetings between these rivals, the match had some tense moments, including a player scuffle. By the end of the match, Sandumuzi Zwane and Mthokozisi Gwebu had both been shown yellow cards. Notably, Zwane was punished for his involvement in a skirmish while he was on the bench in the game they lost 2-0.
Elsewhere, at Mayaluka Stadium, the match between Young Buffaloes and Moneni Pirates was allegedly halted for approximately 15 minutes due to reported fan misconduct.
Despite the early tensions, the top-flight campaign is set to enter week three this weekend, with the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) having already released the fixtures.
