PIGG’S PEAK – A six-year old needy girl from the poverty stricken Mangwaneni community was among the first pupils to arrive at school for her first day of school.

Despite the fact that she had no uniform and no food to eat, Nompilo Nkosi woke up in the morning and joined other pupils who had registered at Pigg’s Peak Central Primary School.

She woke up at 6am and took a cold bath before walking to school on an empty stom-                    ach.
Her other brothers and sisters are also not spared from the poverty as there is no source of income.
Futhi Dlamini, Nompilo’s mother, is unemployed and it was gathered that the father of the children abandoned them some time ago.

Yesterday, Nompilo, who is the first born, walked about two kilometers to school.
Though Nompilo met friends along the way, she outpaced them so she would be able to register on time.
This publication followed Nompilo from the time she left home until she was finally registered at the sch-ool.
