Miss SD struggling to find sponsors
MBABANE – Miss Swaziland Nompilo Mncina says she needs sponsors for her charity projects.
Mncina has not been doing any charity projects since her trip to the Miss World 2009 contest.
It has become a habit of previous beauty queens to become idle after their trip to the Miss World contest, but Mncina said she was not that kind of beauty queen.
“I have a lot of projects in mind but the problem is that no sponsors are coming through,” she said.
One of these projects is building a house for a certain woman at KaPhunga area. The house was gutted down by fire a few months ago. She is teaming up with her Second princess Thandeka Mncadi for this project.
Mncina said she has knocked on many doors for assistance but none of them opened up.
“Some of the people in the places I have been to just tell me to make an appointment as they are busy, while some say they cannot do anything to help,” she said.
Her other problem was that she was doing everything on her own without any help from anybody, not even the Miss Swaziland Organising Committee. She is the one who writes letters to potential sponsors and does all the legwork.
“It is very difficult for me to do it on my own but I will try by all means to get sponsors for the many projects that I want to do,” she said.
The lack of sponsors and the fact that Mncina is doing it on her own was confirmed by Miss Swaziland Spokesperson Rheodora Isaacs.
“She has to be the one to identify the potential sponsors and also write letters to them or visit them personally to seek their assistance,” she said.
Isaacs clearly stated that their job as the Miss Swaziland Committee was to get feedback from the beauty queen on what project she wants to do.
“Once we receive this information, ours is to only write a letter to the potential sponsor to back her up so that she may be given the help she requires,” clarified Isaacs.
She said they were not the ones to search for sponsors for Mncina’s projects, saying: “She is the queen and has to do the legwork herself as in the past, many sponsors indicated that they wanted to see the queen not the pageant director (Vinah Mamba-Gray) on their door steps.”
The spokesperson added that the only time that they would engage Mncina was if they had a project which they wanted her to be part of, or, if there were people who would request that Mncina be present at their functions of charity events.
However, Isaacs said they would give Mncina all the support on her projects and do what they possibly can to help her out.
“She is a hard worker and is willing to do more charity projects during her reign and we will support her all the way,” she added.
The beauty queen said potential sponsors can contact this newspaper’s Entertainment Desk at +286 404 2211.
