Over 100 tenants evicted from Mobeni
MBABANE- The Swaziland National Housing Board (SNHB) has evicted 122 tenants from their Mobeni flats around the country.
Reasons for evicting the tenants, according to the SNHB Legal Advisor Khulile Dlamini are that some of them were a disturbance to others while some defaulted payment of rent.
The tenants have since been served with letters informing them that the lease agreement they had with the board would not be renewed at the end of March.
Dlamini said most of the evicted tenants breached certain clauses of the lease agreement they signed with the board.
“The clauses they breached vary as some of them were failing to pay rent on time,” he said.
Dlamini also stated that those who were a nuisance were first given warning letters where they were told to shape up or ship out.
She said the tenants have been given a grace period to seek alternative accommodation.
Tenants who have been affected by the board’s latest move include those who reside at the Mobeni flats situated at Mbangweni, Msunduza and Matsapha.
One letter in our possession states that the lease agreement will not be renewed when this month elapses and further advises the affected tenant to seek alternative accom-modation.
Some of the affected tenants vowed to take action as they felt they were given unfair treatment.
“I have been staying in the flat for five years and they now want to evict me for no apparent reason,” said one of the tenants who also received the letter.
