MTN looking for Swazi CEO
MBABANE – Hardly a month after Swazi MTN appointed Philip Bessimire as acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO), of the mobile phone service provider, is seeking a permanent head.
Besiimire is the incumbent Chief Marketing Officer of the company.
The board appointed him as acting CEO effective since January 16, 2010. 32-year-old Bes-simire, a Ugandan national, stepped into the shoes of South African national Tebogo Mogapi.
Mogapi failed to have his work permit renewed after it had expired and was only given a three month renewable special pass last November by the Friday Committee.
This time around, the company has made it clear that the person to take up this position should be Swazi.
An advert has been issued and those who are interested in the position have been invited to apply.
The person who would be offered the position is expected to report directly to the board, refine and deliver strategy to ensure sustained shareholder value that meets and exceeds the financial strategy.
He is also expected to provide undisputed leadership to a multi-cultural team of talented executives and manage complex stakeholder relationships.
It is a must for that individual to have a proven track record of leadership and commercial achievement, backed by six to 10 years experience in senior general management in mobile telecom-munications.
The board has also made it clear that the person given the position would be one holding a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) and an engineering degree in mobile telecommunication or related field.
Mpumelelo Makhubu, the company’s Corporate Affairs Manager confirmed that they were already scouting for a CEO.
“The company has already advertised and all those who are interested can now apply,” he said briefly.
