SNTA ropes Under-14s in Zone VI Games squad
EZULWINI – The Swaziland National Tennis Association (SNTA) has included Under-14s in their Zone VI Under-20 Games bound squad.
The squad had its first training camp last weekend at the Royal Swazi Sun where only 10 players out of 12 expected attended.
SNTA President John Mazibuko said the camp was a success and they were impressed.
“This was our first training camp and we are happy that the players got the training. More camps are still to be hosted and we want to come out with a good squad that will compete for honours in December,” he said.
The training camp was conducted by Dumisani Maphalala in the absence of the national team coach Bongani Kunene.
Kunene was away in Johannesburg, South Africa where he had attended a workshop.
Maphalala said they almost covered everything including physical fitness and the basics of playing tennis. He said some players showed great potential.
“There is need to work hard and the talent is there. The players were selected through their performance from the tournaments staged in all the regions. We used especially the results they got from the Swaziland Sugar Association (SSA) tournaments,” he said.
The squad comprises of six girls and boys.
The girls are Zwakele Zwane, Zandile Zwane, Lomalungelo Dlamini, Nelly Manyisa, Nomphumelelo Shongwe and Tebenguni Nxumalo. The boys’ team are Morris Dlamini, Thabang Zwane, Siboniso Matsenjwa, Celumusa Mngometulu, Thembinkosi Khumalo and Phinda Malinga.
The only two absent players were Phinda Malinga and Tebenguni Nxumalo.
All clubs are invited to their meeting at the Olympia Africa sports centre tomorrow, where they will discuss the Swaziland Building Society League (SBS). The meeting will start at 2pm and each club is expected to send two representatives.
