NHLANGANO-Mtsam-bama Member of Parliament (MP) Bheki Mkhonta says the member of the proscribed SWAYOCO charged with petrol bombing his house is a long time friend and colleague in the soccer fraternity.

Mkhonta revealed this yesterday during an interview with the publication.

Zonke Thokozani Tradewell Dlamini (37) of Ekwendzeni area in the Shiselweni region was arrested two weeks ago by officers from the Shiselweni Serious Crimes Unit (Lukhozi) and Nhlangano police.

Dlamini is currently in custody after appearing before High Court Judge Nkululeko Hlophe.

Mkhonta said he was shocked when he learnt Dlamini had been arrested in connection with petrol bombing his house because they were very close and was his homeboy.

The legislator said each time he was home, part of his time would be spent together with Dlamini discussing developmental projects as well as soccer activities.

MP Mkhonta said he had no idea whatsoever that his friend and colleague was a member of the banned political group staging to brutally end his life.

The SWAYOCO member is also alleged to have petrol bombed the homestead of Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) Senior Superintendent Vusi Masuku at Ebenezer area.

The MP’s eight room house situated at Makhalatsini area was petrol bombed three weeks ago while under renovations.

Mkhonta said Dlamini was also Vice-Chairperson of the Mphatheni Zonal League.

Mphatheni Zonal League is sponsored by Mtsambama MP Bheki Mkhonta to the tune of E60 000 for a period of three years. It was launched last year at Assegai Inn and according to MP Mkhonta, Dlamini was present in his capacity as vice-chairperson.

He said he knew Dlamini as a very humbled, respectful and quiet person.

"The incident had brought my family sleepless nights because in the first place we don’t know how we became targets as we know the man arrested. We fear they might strike again. In a bid to develop their lives and assist in reducing crime, I personally forked out my money and sponsored the league where Dlamini is vice-chairperson. I don’t recall crossing paths with him as we were friends and actively involved in soccer. I hate talking about the issue because it makes my life difficult," said MP Mkhonta.
