Is Mr Swaziland planning to resign?

MANZINI – Mr Swaziland Okwakhe Dlamini says he is on the brink of taking a decision that will raise eyebrows.

He has promised to take drastic decisions regarding his position as the most handsom man in the kingdom.

"I represented the country well in Korea despite all the problems I encountered. I do not want the next Mr Swaziland to experience the same problems I encountered. To be a leader means sacrificing yourself and other things so things end up working your way. I think the decision I will take will raise eyebrows to the relevant structures pertaining to the Mr Swaziland pageant. The way I want to deal with this might have some consequences," said Dlamini yesterday.

He added that there were certain things the pageant lacked and was actually working towards fixing the pageant. For example, he said it has no committee unlike the Miss Swaziland pageant, and this means Mr Swaziland title-holder has no support, no one to give him advice, no one to help him with decision making and no guidance.

He added that as the current title holder he was a role model and therefore must dress in a certain way, walk in a certain way, drive a certain car and conduct himself in a manner that those who look up to him are encouraged and inspired.

Dlamini also pointed out that for the title to have an impact, one must have the proper resources and not make headlines for all the wrong reasons, like being involved with a ‘sugar mama’. He said he had conducted a number of charity projects, community work and believed that he had reached out to young people.

In addition, he said he thought that the previous Mr Swaziland pageants had not been fruitful and effective in the way they were supposed to have been.

Fame

"I believe beauty kings also deserve allowances and must be provided with transport so they can attend national activities and duties without failure. I did not receive any prizes when I was handed over the title. Fame will kill our young role models," he added.

Dlamini said he was still to consult with the relevant authorities to come to a final decision with which step to take.

Swaziland National Council of Arts and Culture’s CEO Stanley Dlamini said: "Okwakhe knows that whenever he has any problems, he can come to the council’s offices. He has not communicated anything to me. If he sees that nothing is still being done, he should write a letter addressed to the council."
