MBABANE – First it was the Somhlolo artificial pitch which has given visiting Ghana a headache of migraine proportions and now it’s the growing injury list that is causing the World Cup 2010 quarter-finalists jitters ahead of Sunday’s epic Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Sihlangu.

Dazzling attacking midfielder, Kevin-Prince Boateng is now doubtful whilst in-form striker, Mathew Amoah has been ruled out of the game following an injury he sustained while on duty for his Dutch club, NAC Breda.

Boateng, who has just moved from English club Portsmouth to AC Milan in the Italian Serie A, suffered an ankle injury at training on Tuesday morning, and sat out the afternoon session. He was also not part of the team’s activities on Wednesday.

Meanwhile Amoah, who has scored four goals in his team’s first four matches of the season, is said to have been injured in Breda’s 2-0 win over VVV in the Dutch league last Sartuday. Kick-Off’s website reported yesterday that Boateng has remained hopeful of being fit for the game, but it is not known when he shall start training again.

The AC Milan player is key to Ghana’s mid-field, in which he operates a free role alongside Rosenberg’s Anthony Annan and Udinese’ Kwadwo Asamoah.

Amoah was expected to start for the Ghanaians against Sihlangu, given his electrifying form in the Dutch Eredivisie. Ghana’s team officials confirmed to kick-off that the player would not make it as he would not recover on time for the game.

"Boateng suffered a minor injury on his ankle, and should be ready before Sunday," a team official is quoted as saying.

Other players that have already been ruled out of the game for Ghana include Chelsea’s Michael Essien, Tottenham Hotspur’s Sulley Muntari, and Sunderland’s John Mensah.

The ‘Black Stars’ are expected to land at Matsapha International Airport today at 4pm and would be booked at Royal Villas whilst Sihlangu has been boo-ked at Lugogo Sun.
