68 to re-write exam tomorrow
MANZINI – At least 68 University of Swaziland (UNISWA) students will tomorrow rewrite an examination paper that had irregularities when they wrote it initially.
The students who are doing their first year under the Faculty of Health Sciences at the Mbabane Campus will rewrite their HSC110 exam paper.
The initial question paper had irregularities in that it contained the marking guide, which gave the students answers.
This then prompted the UNISWA Senate to take a decision that the students rewrite the paper yesterday. Some of the students raised concerns about the issue.
Some of the concerns include the time frame to study for the paper. The Students’ Representative then approached Senate with a request to have the date for writing the paper shifted to tomorrow when they would have made consultations and prepared themselves.
Senate also met yesterday morning and resolved that the extension be granted and that the paper be rewritten tomorrow.
UNISWA Registrar Sipho Vilakati in an interview said all was now set for the rewriting of the paper.
"We discussed this issue with the students’ leadership and Senate also met. A decision was taken and the students will rewrite the paper," Vilakati said.
Asked about any complications that might have been brought about by the sudden changes, he said this was an irregularity that Senate would address. He denied reports that the students were against the idea of rewriting the paper as they discussed the issue fruitfully with all the concerned parties.
"Integrity of our examina-tions is very important and that is why the paper will be rewritten," he said.
