Suspect killer bully released
MBABANE-The 17-year-old boy who allegedly drowned his cousin about two weeks ago has been released from the police protective custody.
Though he has been released he has not been reunited with his family at Hlane where the incident occurred as there are fears for his life.
Sakhile* was taken into police custody after his family accused him of drowning his five-year-old cousin Thembezankhe Dlamini.
Buried
He spent close to two weeks at the Simunye Police Station. His ‘drowned’ cousin was buried last Tuesday after a post-mortem was conducted.
The police took him in when some of his family members threatened to deal with him if he was left behind.
According to a source, while he was at the police station no family members from Hlane where the accident happened bothered to visit him.
The source said while he was in the police custody he got an opportunity to be counselled after what befell him.
Confirmed
Police PRO Superintendent Vusi Masuku confirmed that the boy had since been removed from police custody.
Masuku said though he had been released he was taken to an alternative place of residence which would be safer for him. He said the place where the boy is currently residing would not be revealed due to safety reasons.
"He has been released from police safety to his other relatives in a place that will not be revealed," he said.
Masuku said the police were still investigating the circumstances leading to the death of Dlamini. No charges were laid against Sakhile.
