House on Fire goes on fire'
MALKERNS – At the stroke of midnight, House on Fire went ‘on fire’ as people screamed, lifted their hands in the air, hugged, kissed and danced the night away to welcome 2009.
An atmosphere of total merriment enveloped the entertainment spot, something which was the climax of the build up to the much anticipated New Year.
A unique aspect of the night was that a number of revellers came dressed in traditional Mexican outfit to complement the theme of the night.
Sombrero hats, Ponchos, black and long moustaches for men, frilly skirts and dresses for women and other Mexican accessories were all over the place. Some even wore the Mexican legendary hero Zorro costume.
There was no question that people were out to have a good time.
Just before midnight fun lovers swarmed the dance floor looking all excited and ready for the countdown.
At this point they were dancing to the music of the group ‘Hot Water’ which at times played their guitars the Mexican way.
With House on Fire Director Jiggs Thorne leading the countdown, everybody shouted on top of their voices "Happy New Year" – a moment that was also characterised by fireworks and the raining down of confetti.
DJ DD Cool was on the decks at this time playing a variety of House music that warmed up the dance floor.
At times he played old R&B and Reggae hits that revellers enjoyed.
The venue had just over 500 people and one could not maneuver freely.
The party continued even after 3am, people just dancing and having fun and also enjoying their drinks.
However, some left House of Fire for another New Year’s Eve party at Café Mogambo at Esibayeni Lodge in Matsapha.
