SD/Kenya to cooperate in military training - king

LOZITHA – The countries of Swaziland and Kenya have agreed to cooperate in the area of military training.

His Majesty King Mswati III yesterday told new Kenyan ambassador Thomas B. Amolo that military training was a very important programme and therefore looked forward to seeing this area being strengthened as well as expanded.
The king also said another area that the two countries could partner in was that of tourism.

Ambassador Amolo informed the king that Kenya was ready to enhance Swaziland in the sphere of military training.
“Our historic military cooperation has enriched the Royal Swazi Officer corps through training. Kenya government is further ready to broaden the spread of cooperation in capacity building in the areas of tourism and hotel management, diplomatic training and public service management,” the envoy said.

According to the online encyclopedia wikipedia, the Kenyan military consists, according to the Constitution, of the Army, Navy and Air Force. Its main mission is defence of the country’s borders in a notoriously unstable region.

The military enjoys, in general, a good reputation. It is regularly deployed in peace keeping missions around the world and generally commended for its professionalism. Further, in the aftermath of the national elections of December 2007 and the violence that subsequently engulfed the country, a commission of inquiry, the Waki Commission commended its readiness and adjudged it to “have performed its duty well”.
