Tigers don't cry as Thompson congratulates Highlanders

LOBAMBA – As the famous saying goes, Tigers don’t cry. Indeed, a crest-fallen Manzini Wanderers astute coach, William ‘Tiger’ Thompson was gracious in defeat despite his side losing a game they dominated and in the process watching their opponents, Mbabane Highlanders running away with the SwaziBank Cup plus the E500 000 first prize at stake.

“Personally, I am proud of my boys because they fought and created many chances but we just couldn’t convert them. Highlanders just punished us on set pieces,” Thompson said.

Thompson said what irked him in the manner they lost the game was perhaps the fact that Highlanders near rarely  created any clear cut chances but just scored from two set pieces.

“We gave them a chance to score with the mistakes we made and they took advantage of that,” said the South African born coach, who has lifted the ‘Weslians’ from the near-nothing side that was beset by internal problems and catapulted them to Swazi Bank Cup runner’s up within four months in charge.
He congratulated Highlanders for winning the trophy.

“In the end there had to be a winner,” he said, whilst rushing to comfort his players who fell on the artificial Somhlolo Stadium pitch at the sound of the final whistle as if shot.
