Woman dagga dealer gets 14 years in prison
SIMUNYE - A dagga dealing 48-year-old woman who tried to outpace soldiers at Maphiveni has been sentenced to 14 years in prison.
Thandi Mkhwanazi was found with over 38 kg of dagga by soldiers while driving her Toyota Hilux 2.4 bakkie registered SD 910 OL where upon arrival at the 24 hour army check point she is said to have acted suspiciously by alighting from her vehicle and sprinting away from the soldiers who came to search the vehicle.
It has been gathered from sources who witnessed the drama at the base, Mkhwanazi, even before she took off the soldiers were already suspicious and ordered her to stop, but as she tried to escape she fell on the ground.
This is when the soldiers were able to apprehended her and took her to her car where they searched the vehicle.
This is when the dagga was discovered.
Soon after the discovery Mkhwanazi was handed over to the police who then charged her for contravening section 12.1 of the Pharmacy Act by being found in possession of the dagga.
Early in the week, she appeared before the no-nonsense Simunye Magistrate, Philisiwe Dlamini, who in the past few months has showed no tolerance for the illegal drug dealing in the Lubombo region by issuing stern sentences to those found in possession of the illegal habit forming drug.
During her appearance the equally capable Prosecutor Mbutfo Mbingo stood for the Crown while lawyer Zonke Magagula stood for her defence.
During the handing down of the sentence Dlamini sentenced Mkhwanazi to 14 years imprisonment with a fine option of E14 000 and this is despite her lawyer pleaded to the magistrate for a lenient sentence.
