Ghanaian set to join Umbelebele
MBABANE-A Ghanaian striker is set to join Umbelebele Jomo Cosmos.
The 18-year-old, John Ted-Tetteh, arrived in the country yesterday to join the team affectionately known to its supporters as ‘Skom boys’.
According to Ted-Tetteh, he is in the country to join Umbelebele after speaking to the team’s shareholder Jomo Sono. The player was supposed to come with his fellow countryman who is currently in South Africa.
The striker is a product of a sporting academy in Ghana known as Obeis Sporting Academy which trains youth between the ages of 18-25.
From the academy he went on to play for a First Division team known as Sparks FC. His manager, one Emmanuel, said the player would first go to Mozambique where he would attend trials with a team in that country for two days before coming to back to Swaziland.
He will be leaving tomorrow.
Ted-Tetteh said he would be very happy if he could join Umbelebele as it was his dream to play in Swaziland. He said Swaziland was his first choice because of its proximity to South Africa where soccer is big.
“I also like Swaziland because in Mozambique there is a language barrier yet here you are able to communicate in English,” he said.
The player said if he could pass the trials with Umbelebele then he would show Swazi fans the best of football. He said in his home country in 12 games he scored 17 goals, which makes him believe that he can excel in Swaziland.
Umbelebele PRO Ray Msibi said it was true that they were expecting foreign players to join the team, but they were awaiting the return of one of the team’s directors who is in South Africa. “One of our directors is in South Africa to meet Jomo and we will take it from there,” he said.
