LOBAMBA – Capital city giants Mbabane Highlanders and Mbabane Swallows say both teams need maximum points today if they are to secure a top-four finish this season.

Highlanders and Swallows are tied on 40 points but sit sixth and fourth respectively ahead of the Mbabane derby at Somhlolo National Stadium. Kick-off is at 3pm.

Yesterday, the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) held pre-match media briefings at Somhlolo, where both teams’ coaches and captains were present.

Home team Coach Seloetse ‘Sly’ Mosala said Highlanders are clear that they need the full three points, or they risk a disappointing end to the season.

Mosala said they understand that dropping points means sliding down the table, even towards the relegation zone, and stated that the competition is stiff.

“I have watched a few Swallows games on FIFA+ and I know what to expect. It will be a free-flowing game as both teams are safe from relegation and want to climb up,” Mosala said.

He believes the 1-0 defeat to Tabankulu Celtics should motivate the players to fight to the end, as they also aim to record a derby win for the first time in almost three years.

On the other hand, Swallows Coach Caleb ‘No-Nonsense’ Ngwenya said they understand the magnitude of the game and will fight from start to finish.

Ngwenya said they remember what they did to their arch-rivals in the first round and will be cautious not to suffer the same result. He expects an open game and wants his side to score enough goals to secure victory.

He confirmed that Mancoba ‘Nciba’ Vilakati has been cleared by the team doctors but admitted it has been a rough season with injuries.

Captain Siphamandla ‘24 Reasons’ Maseko said they are seeking revenge after the 1-0 defeat in the first round, while Ncomo Gina said they need no extra motivation to win the bragging rights and delight their fans after the final whistle.
