MBABANE – Fireworks are expected in Eswatini’s busiest city, Manzini, as the battle for promotion and survival begins.
Magwanyana meet National First Division (NFD) bound Amawele at Mavuso Sports Centre at 12:30pm. The match, dubbed a ‘promotion and survival’ battle, promises to be a cracker as the hosts eye a spot in the elite league. However, they face MTN Premier League outfit Amawele, who hope to survive the axe. Amawele finished in 13th position in the top-flight league, qualifying them for the playoffs that begin today. Alternatively, Magwanyana wrapped up their league campaign in third place in the MulaSport National First Division.
Amawele Coach Mduduzi ‘Sikhalo’ Nxumalo will look towards Captain Njabulo ‘Kitaza’ Magongo, Machawe Dlamini and Phephisani ‘Pepper’ Maphanga to deliver when it matters most.
Across the technical area, Themba Nkambule banks on NFD top shooter Phiwokwakhe ‘Shalulile’ Matsebula to penetrate Amawele goalkeeper Andile ‘Khune’ Zwane’s territory. He also relies on Banele ‘Melito’ Simelane and Veli ‘Gyan’ Msane.
A win for either side will boost their chances of playing in the Premier League next season. There are four teams contesting the playoffs and each side has to play three games. The two teams with the highest points will be promoted.
