MBABANE – CAF has increased annual member association funding from US$200 000 to US$700 000, boosting the Eswatini Football Association’s allocation to over E11.5 million.
This increase adds $500 000 (over E8.2 million) per federation to fortify administration and development across Africa. The Confederation of African Football CAF President, Patrice Motsepe, announced the expanded subvention during the confederation’s strategy conference in Sal, Cabo Verde, held in the period October 7 to 9, 2026. Total annual distribution across all 54 member associations will leap from US$10.8 million to $37.8 million.
The boosted capital injection is structured to assist national federations across several operational and strategic fronts. This includes elevating day-to-day administrative operations and ensuring financial stability. The funding will further assist in expanding investment in grassroots initiatives and school football. Nurturing youth programmes, elite academies and women’s football are also among the planned programmes.
Enhancing domestic leagues, coaching standards and refereeing structures is also among the priority areas.
Looking ahead, Motsepe revealed CAF’s broader ambition to drive annual allocations up to US$1 million per association, underpinned by incoming commercial partnerships. Implementation timelines and associated compliance conditions are expected to be detailed in due course.
