PIGG’S PEAK – Former Mbabane Swallows attacking midfielder Given Lukhele made a remarkable return to action, inspiring Zibonele Vultures to a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Khanjana Rovers here yesterday.
Playing in front of a sizeable crowd at the Prison Sports Ground in Pigg’s Peak, the match was a pulsating affair in the Northern Hhohho Super League. In a truly historic moment for local football, Lukhele, who now has an amputated arm, confidently took to the field for his former club.
Wearing the iconic number 10 shirt, just like his idol Lionel Messi, Lukhele wasted no time in making an impact. He capitalised on a defensive blunder to give his side an early lead.
Rovers winger Bonginkhosi Ndwandwa came close to an equaliser 10 minutes later, but Vultures went into the break with a 1-0 lead.
Just five minutes into the second half, Rovers thought they had levelled through Colani Ndwandwe, but the goal was ruled out for a foul on Vultures goalkeeper Samkeliso Ndlangamandla. However, Ndwandwa’s persistence paid off in the 63rd minute when he scored from the penalty spot after a suspected handball.
