MBABANE – Basadi in Music Awards are taking a major step forward as they celebrate their fifth year.
The awards have announced a Pan-African expansion for the 2026 edition. The awards platform, which has spent the past few years celebrating women in music, will now open selected categories to participants from across the African continent.
Organisers said the move marks the evolution of the awards from a South African platform into a continental movement aimed at recognising women shaping Africa’s music industry. “While South Africa remains the home and the anchor of the awards, this expansion creates new pathways for collaboration, visibility and cultural exchange between women artists, creators, producers, business leaders and industry stakeholders across Africa,” read the statement.
Nominations for the 2026 edition officially opened on April 30 and are expected to close on May 30, with the public and industry stakeholders encouraged to submit their favourite candidates.
Founder and CEO Hioni Modise Matau’s statement read that the milestone is a significant moment for the awards. “As we mark year five of Basadi in Music Awards, this moment is deeply meaningful for us. Expanding to include Pan-African participation is a natural evolution of our vision to create a platform that not only recognises South African talent, but also celebrates the incredible women shaping music across the continent. We encourage everyone to take part by nominating their favourite candidate and making their voices heard,” read the statement online.
The Basadi in Music Awards continue to grow as a platform that elevates women in the industry and with the upcoming regional multiple nominations, the ceremony emphasises the rise of African women’s music prominence.
