PIGG’S PEAK – The Examinations Council of Eswatini (ECESWA) has announced the reintroduction of the EGCSE (Form V) June examination series, which was last written over a decade ago.
According to an official press released by ECESWA Chief Executive Officer, Dr Mandlenkhosi Dlamini, the decision to revive the exams follows careful consideration, stakeholder engagement and a need to align with semesterisation approaches at tertiary institutions. The new series is primarily targeted at upgrading candidates who wish to retake previously sat EGCSE or EPCSE examinations, though doors remain open for non-upgrading candidates as well.
The first registration period for the revived examinations is scheduled to run from February 15 to March 31, 2027. The first cohort will sit the exams between June 14 and June 18, 2027, with results expected to be released in July 2027. Registration fees will remain similar to those of the November examination series.
For the initial June 2027 series, candidates will be tested on four core subjects: Mathematics, English Language, First Language SiSwati and Religious Education. These examinations will be based on the 2024–2026 examination syllabi.
ECESWA has already begun advanced preparations to expand the offering for the June 2028 series, with plans to add Physical Science, Biology and other subjects depending on public demand and feedback.
Unlike the standard November exams, the June series will not be hosted at every school. Instead, assessments will be written at designated regional and cluster centres across the country’s four regions. In the Hhohho Region, examinations will be held at the Emlalatini Development Centre, Mhlatane High School, Mayiwane High School, Sebenta (Mbabane) and Herefords High School. Manzini Region candidates will use Bosco Study Centre, Ngwane Park High School and Mankayane High School. For the Lubombo Region, the designated centres are Charles Wesley, Duze, Lusoti, Maphilingo and Lubombo Central high schools. Meanwhile, the Shiselweni Region will host exams at Nhlangano Central, Hluti Central and Edwaleni high schools.
