MANZINI – His Majesty King Mswati III has returned home following his participation in the SADC Summit in South Africa and an official visit to Malaysia, where he engaged in regional and international matters of importance to Eswatini.
His Majesty was welcomed back into the kingdom by members of the public, government officials and members of the Royal Family, following his international engagements.
The King’s return marks the conclusion of a significant diplomatic programme which saw him participate in discussions with regional leaders before travelling to Malaysia to strengthen relations and cooperation between the two countries.
His Majesty first travelled to Durban, South Africa, where he attended the 46th Ordinary Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government held on August 17, 2026.
One of the major outcomes of the SADC Summit was the election of His Majesty as Chairperson of the SADC Organ Troika on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation.
The position places Eswatini at the forefront of the regional body’s efforts to promote peace, security and stability within Southern Africa.
The SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation is responsible for dealing with key regional matters relating to peace and security, including conflict prevention, management and resolution.
His Majesty’s election therefore gives Eswatini an important responsibility in regional efforts aimed at maintaining peace and political stability among SADC member States.
The Summit itself brought together Heads of State and governments from across the region to deliberate on matters affecting southern Africa.
Among the issues discussed were regional integration, industrialisation, infrastructure development, agriculture, critical minerals and the need to build resilient and inclusive economies.
The regional leaders also considered peace and security matters affecting the region, including the situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Following his SADC engagements, His Majesty proceeded to Malaysia for an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation between Eswatini and Malaysia.
The visit provided an opportunity for Eswatini to engage with Malaysia on areas of mutual interest and to further strengthen the diplomatic relationship between the two countries.
During the Malaysia visit, His Majesty was accompanied by Inkhosikati LaFogiyane, while members of the Eswatini delegation also participated in the official engagements.
The King’s return was met with a reception involving members of the public, government officials and members of the Royal Family, who gathered to welcome him back home.
His return is expected to provide an opportunity for the nation to receive outcomes of the two international engagements.
The appointment comes at a time when SADC continues to grapple with regional security challenges while pursuing greater economic integration and development.
For Eswatini, His Majesty’s election places the country in a position to contribute directly to regional discussions and initiatives aimed at promoting peace, security and stability.
