MBABANE – The 2026/27 MTN Premier League season bursts into life at Somhlolo National Stadium on Saturday, with a blockbuster double-header headlining the opening weekend.
The grand opening pits Mbabane Highlanders AM against Green Mamba at 2pm, before Moneni Pirates host defending champions Nsingizini Hotspurs at 4:15pm.
The Highlanders AM-Green Mamba clash carries added intrigue, with both sides entering the new campaign under new coaches and eager to lay down an early marker.
Highlanders AM will look to South African tactician and former Mamelodi Sundowns scout Floyd ‘Mourigno’ Mogale to spearhead their challenge after he suffered defeat to Moneni Pirates in the 8Bet Trade Fair Cup final.
Green Mamba Coach Mthunzi Ginindza will also be determined to turn the page after his side’s 8Bet Trade Fair Cup campaign was halted by Pirates in the semi-finals.
The second encounter promises another heavyweight battle as the E660 000 8Bet Trade Fair Cup champions Pirates lock horns with league kings Nsingizini.
Pirates will enter the contest buoyed by their cup triumph, while Nsingizini will be seeking to immediately signal their intentions of retaining the league crown for an unprecedented third consecutive season.
The champions have dominated the domestic top flight over the past two campaigns and will be keen to avoid surrendering their grip on the title, while Pirates will relish the opportunity to derail their pursuit from the outset.
Six other matches will be staged across the country on Saturday and Sunday as all 16 teams launch their campaigns in what promises to be a fiercely contested new season.
