MBABANE- A major milestone brings smartphones, connectivity and financial inclusion closer to Lubane members and communities across Eswatini.

MTN Eswatini and Lubane Cooperative today marked a significant milestone with the launch of the Lubane SACCO Device Loan, an innovative initiative designed to make smartphones and mobile connectivity more accessible to members of Lubane Cooperative and other Savings and Credit Cooperative Organisations (SACCOs).

The partnership brings together telecommunications and financial services to address an increasingly important need in modern society: access to smart devices and reliable digital connectivity.

Through the initiative, eligible members will have an opportunity to access smartphone devices through a loan arrangement facilitated by Lubane SACCO, together with MTN data packages that enable them to stay connected and participate more fully in the digital economy.

Speaking at the launch, MTN highlighted connectivity as one of the key pillars of its business and its broader contribution to society. Connectivity enables people to remain in contact with their families, loved ones, customers and businesses, while also creating opportunities to access essential digital services.

Financial services form another important pillar of the partnership. Through mobile financial services, customers can make payments, send and receive money and support their families and businesses more conveniently. The collaboration with Lubane therefore creates an opportunity to bring these services together, making access to both devices and digital financial services more practical for members.

The launch also reflects the importance of collaboration between businesses and member-based financial institutions in expanding financial and digital inclusion. By leveraging Lubane SACCO’s relationship with its members and MTN’s connectivity and digital services, the initiative seeks to help more people participate in an increasingly connected economy.

Representing Lubane Cooperative, the Executive Chairman expressed appreciation for the collaboration and the shared commitment that made the initiative possible. The partnership demonstrates the value of working together to turn ideas into practical solutions that directly benefit members.

The initiative is also expected to extend beyond Lubane members in the long term, with members of other SACCOs able to benefit from the device loan opportunity. This creates a broader platform through which cooperative members can gain access to smartphones and MTN connectivity.

For beneficiaries, access to a smartphone is more than simply owning a device. It can provide a gateway to communication, mobile financial services, business opportunities, information, education and other digital platforms.

The launch of the Lubane SACCO Device Loan therefore represents a step towards bringing technology and financial services closer to communities.

MTN CEO Jerry Soko together with Lubane CEO Gugu Vilakati officially signing the partnership on Friday between the two entities while MTN ‘s Enterprise Manager Sipho Dlamini (L) and Lubane SACCO EDCO Chairperson Kenneth Zwane looks on.
