MBABANE – Matsapha-based Company, BMG and the Eswatini Sport and Recreation Council (ESRC) has boosted Eswatini’s karate duo set to compete in Japan.
ESRC provided E45 800, while BMG provided tracksuits worth E17 000, totalling a sponsorship value of E62 800.
This was during the official send-off at the ESRC head offices in Mbabane yesterday, where ESRC Finance Manager Ncobile Dlamini, revealed that they have sponsored the team with E45 800, while imploring them to bring back accolades.
Dlamini spoke on behalf of the ESRC Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Doctor Darius Dlomo, where she stated that they hope and pray that the duo of Mpendulo Maxonga and Nelisiwe Gama will raise the country’s flag.
“We hope and pray that you will hoist the country’s flag high. The council supports you 100 per cent and we have funded you with about E45 800 for the tournament, and we hope we will have great results,” she remarked.
She further reminded the duo that the ESRC has podium bonuses they give out based on their performance, which she cited should be a motivational factor for them as they compete.
“If you give us medals, we give you monies. We would also like to thank BMG for the wonderful sponsorship and we are looking forward to working with you,” she added.
She concluded by giving the delegation travelling mercies and a great competition ahead.
Two Eswatini Oyama Kyokushin Karate players will be participating in the International Karate Organisation (IKO) Matsushima Sixth World Weight Tournament from November 29-30, 2025 in Japan.
Meanwhile, Coach and Head of Delegation, Sensei Zwelile Thwala will be undergoing his grading session on December 1, 2025, where he aims to get his fifth Dan belt.
Moreover, Eswatini Oyama Karate Association President Mfanafuthi Vilakati shared his gratitude to ESRC for embracing them in this endeavour as it is no longer just at club level but at a national level.
“We would also like to share our gratitude to our sponsor, BMG Engineering, based in Matsapha, which gracefully sponsored our team with tracksuits so that they look presentable like the other teams, and we are proud to step onto the international stage with your colours,” expressed Vilakati.
He concluded by stating that they are not going to Japan to add numbers but to fully compete and bring back accolades like their previous team of females that secured third place.
On the other hand, BMG Eswatini Brand Manager, Rudolph Hitzeroth expressed that the honour was all theirs as they were able to assist the team.
“I have seen first-hand the things that karate actually does for people but this is us giving back to the community, and Eswatini has massive potential despite our small scale, and its time that the world actually sees what we can do,” said Hitzeroth.
He concluded by wishing the delegation safe travels and great results ahead.
