MBABANE – In a first-of-its-kind development for Eswatini’s sporting landscape, the National Sports Awards have secured a title sponsor.

The Eswatini Sport and Recreation Council (ESRC) officially unveiled betting giant  MulaSport Eswatini as the sole sponsor for the upcoming Awards Gala on March 26. The partnership was announced yesterday at the Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) during the launch of the sixth edition of the annual event, which is set to be held at The Luke Commission (TLC) in Sidvokodvo. The event was attended by ESRC Board Chairman Celucolo ‘Dino’ Dlamini, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Darius Dlomo and MulaSport Director Khanya Magagula.

Speaking at the launch, Magagula disclosed a maiden E250 000 purse, saying they view sport as a vehicle for national identity and development rather than mere entertainment.

“We want to see sports personnel competing consistently at the national and regional levels. Most importantly, we want to see the Eswatini’s flag represented with pride wherever and whenever the competition takes place,” Magagula said.

He described the partnership as very meaningful, adding that the awards are a token of appreciation and a celebration of excellence to ensure that athletes’ hard work does not go unnoticed. “Our sponsorship demonstrates our willingness to support as many sports as possible in this country; not just one discipline, not just one event, but the entire sporting family of Eswatini. Since our establishment, we have proven that we are involved in supporting almost all sporting codes and I am sure that everyone can attest to that,” he added.
