Manzini – His Majesty King Mswati III has applauded the bravery, dedication and commitment of Director General Operations Christopher Nduku Lukhele, who was promoted in absentia from Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police to Assistant National Commissioner of Police during the 23rd Police Day celebrations held at the Matsapha Police Academy.
Lukhele was not present to receive his promotion as he had been called to attend to national duties after a fire broke out at Sunway Enterprises in the Matsapha Industrial Site on the same day the police service was celebrating Police Day.
The senior police officer was deployed to monitor the emergency response at the industrial site, where the flames had engulfed the company’s premises. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
During the celebrations, His Majesty commended Lukhele’s absence, describing it as a reflection of his commitment to duty and willingness to put national responsibilities ahead of personal recognition.
The King’s remarks highlighted the importance of sacrifice among members of the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS), with Lukhele’s actions demonstrating the values of dedication, courage and service expected from senior officers.
Lukhele, who serves as Director General Operations within REPS, was among officers recognised during the 23rd Police Day celebrations, which celebrated the achievements and contributions of police officers in maintaining peace and security in the country.
