MANZINI – TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup-bound Green Mamba beat Red Rhinos 3-0 in their 8Bet Trade Fair Cup Last 16 clash at Mavuso Sports Centre yesterday.
The match was initially scheduled for Tuesday, but was cancelled after Red Rhinos failed to turn up.
It was then rescheduled for yesterday after the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Disciplinary Committee (DC) ruled in favour of Red Rhinos.
Green Mamba made their intentions clear five minutes in when debutant Machawe Dlamini’s searching cross caused problems. As Lwazi Dlamini attempted to clear the danger, he put through his own goal to make it 1-0.
The Correctional Services side doubled their lead seven minutes later when Njabulo ‘D4D’ Ndlovu tapped in from a telling cross down the right flank. Kwanele Shongwe then made it 3-0 in the 23rd minute, unleashing a cracker from a tight angle.
Red Rhinos’ seasoned gaffer Zenzele ‘Ace’ Dlamini made a change on the half-hour mark.
The Mthunzi Ginindza-coached side went into the break with a comfortable 3-0 lead.
At the start of the second half, Coach Ginindza made three substitutions while ‘Ace’ made two.
There was little to write home about in the opening 15 minutes of the second period as both sides struggled to create clear chances.
BoBhejane were reduced to 10 men in the 65th minute when one of their players was shown a straight red card for a rough tackle on Matsenjwa.
No further goals were scored as the referee blew the final whistle.
The result sees Green Mamba through to the quarter-finals, where they will face Manzini Sea Birds later today.
Should the Correctional Services outfit defeat Izinyoni Zolwandle, they will have to split their squad. One team will continue in the 8Bet Trade Fair Cup, while the other will be in CAF Confederation Cup action against Angolan side Agusto at Somhlolo National Stadium on the same day.
