MBABANE – Lady Sphesh has reached a new milestone in her career by recording 26 793 monthly listeners on Spotify.
Siphesihle Shongwe, better known as Lady Sphesh, started her musical journey in 2019 as an RnB artist. She quickly made a name for herself as a finalist in the MTN Bushfire Fly Top 10 in both 2019 and 2022. Lady Sphesh first gained widespread recognition with her collaboration alongside South African artist Rambo S on the track ‘Amagugu’, which became a hit on music platforms and in the streets.
This Afro-House track marked a turning point in her career, leading her to fall in love with the genre and discover her musical identity. In January 2023, she released a seven-track Amapiano Extended Playlist that caught the attention of DJ TpZ.
Her song ‘Sikhiya Senhliziyo’, a collaboration with South African musician DJ TpZ, is the most streamed track on her Spotify page. It had 767 559 streams at the time of compiling this report. It is followed by her single ‘Abalali’, which has 60 568 streams. Another popular track is ‘Zigade’, which has garnered 59 750 streams. “It’s an amazing feeling to know that so many people are enjoying my music. I owe this milestone to my supportive listeners and the community that has embraced my work. Their encouragement inspires me to keep creating and sharing my passion for music. This achievement is a stepping stone and I look forward to reaching even more people with my future projects,” she said.
The musician increased her profile further earlier this year when she was spotted in the studio with Heavy K, an award-winning South African musician.
Looking at South Africa, Tyla is experiencing a surge in popularity on Spotify, gaining millions of new monthly listeners and achieving significant milestones for an African artist. She is currently the African artist with the most Spotify monthly listeners, surpassing 30 million. Her debut album is also charting globally, including in the UK and the USA.
