MBABANE – What was initially reported as a suicide has now escalated into a murder investigation.

This, after it emerged that the 34-year-old woman from Sitsatsaweni, who was previously reported to have committed suicide, died after allegedly being forced to ingest a poisonous substance by her boyfriend. The boyfriend has since been arrested and charged with murder. The tragic incident first came to light on May 10, 2025, when a relative reported that her cousin had died inside a house at Mzilikazi due to poisoning. At that time, the matter was recorded as a suspected suicide.  However, further investigations by police, according to sources close to the probe, uncovered new details suggesting foul play. It is now alleged that the deceased was forced to consume the toxic substance. Following these revelations, the man believed to be responsible, a 28-year-old from Mdulini, was apprehended by police on July 31, 2025, at Buhleni. He has since been formally charged with murder. Police have confirmed the arrest and the murder charge, but declined to provide further details as the investigation is ongoing. The case highlights a shift in the initial understanding of the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
