LOBAMBA – The Eswatini Sport and Recreation Council (ESRC) has lashed out on reports indicating that some local athletes were competing barefoot at the Somhlolo National Stadium.

In a statement sent to the media yesterday, ESRC Senior Marketing and Communications Officer, Dumisani Ntiwane, said they will investigate the matter and get to the bottom of it.

“We are dismayed. In fact, we are at a loss for words. This certainly cannot and will not be tolerated. We are going to launch a full scale investigation, which will help us to arrive at an accurate conclusion.

“We vividly recall that the ESRC CEO, Darius Dlomo, raised this issue during the National Championships sometime last year. The championships were staged at the Mavuso Sports Centre and the chief executive officer (CEO) even walked out of the competition after seeing some athletes bleeding,”  Ntiwane said.
