MBABANE – Smart investments and hard work can pay off—sometimes spectacularly.
Nelisiwe Magongo, (31) the first liSwati female to cross the finish line at the seventh edition of the Imbube Marathon, turned a E4 500 investment in running shoes into a E45 000 payday.
She was not only the first liSwati finisher, but also fourth overall (women’s category) in the 42km race, clocking 3:44:22 hours at the Somhlolo National Stadium this past Saturday; an event His Majesty fondly calls ‘The Bushfire of Marathon’.
The secret behind her victory? A pair of Nike Zoomfly 6 racing shoes. Magongo carefully rotated her training footwear for early mornings, long runs and interval sessions, reserving the Zoomfly 6 exclusively for race day.
“Every step counts,” she says.
“The right shoes protect you from injuries and push you through tough miles. Running is a high-maintenance sport and good gear is an investment in health, confidence and performance—not for show.”
