MBABANE – Eswatini’s beach volleyball pair has claimed second place in Mozambique.
This transpired in the Beach Volleyball (BVB) Tour of the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) Zone VI Fourth Leg. In a display of grit and skill that has captivated volleyball enthusiasts across Southern Africa, Eswatini’s beach volleyball stars have once again etched their names into the annals of the sport.
The BVB Tour CAVB Zone VI Fourth Leg, held from November 6-10, 2025 at the Costa Do Sol Beach in Maputo, Mozambique, saw fierce competition among 10 nations: Zimbabwe, South Africa, Zambia, Namibia, Mozambique, Lesotho, Malawi, Botswana, Eswatini and Angola.
The Eswatini National Volleyball Association (ENVA) hailed the event as a historic triumph for the kingdom.
When the final standings were revealed, Sanele Mndzebele and Mlamuli Simelane – secured second place overall, marking a monumental achievement for Eswatini beach volleyball.
Meanwhile, their compatriots Raymond Dube and Dennis Lukhele fought valiantly to claim seventh position, rounding out a strong showing for the nation.
“They’ve done it again! Our golden boys Sanele Mndzebele and Mlamuli Simelane made history for Eswatini volleyball by finishing second overall, while Raymond Dube and Dennis Lukhele proudly secured seventh place.”
“We couldn’t be prouder of these incredible athletes — you’ve represented the kingdom with excellence and heart. Congratulations, champions,” exclaimed ENVA in a statement.
The tournament was not solely a men’s affair; Eswatini’s women team also turned heads by advancing to the quarter-finals – a ground-breaking first for the country.
ENVA President Eric Gama provided an upbeat update on the leg’s outcomes.
“We came to Maputo for the BVB Leg 4, and Eswatini made history! Our female team achieved a remarkable milestone by reaching the quarter-finals of the tournament — a first for our nation,” he remarked.
Gama reserved special praise for the men’s leading duo.
“Our men’s duo, Sanele and Mlamuli, continue to shine as true beacons of Eswatini Beach Volleyball. We couldn’t be prouder of their accomplishments and dedication to the game,” he said.
He went on to describe all of Eswatini’s participating teams as a true revelation and a promise for the bright future of BVB in Eswatini.
Looking ahead with optimism, Gama concluded by stating that they eagerly await the day when the finals will be a Swati affair.
On the other hand, it was shared by the association that this second-place finish builds on Eswatini’s growing reputation in the CAVB Zone VI series, signalling that the kingdom is punching well above its weight on the continental stage.
