MBABANE – Young Buffaloes FC, affectionately known as ‘Amathole Ezinyathi’, are one of the powerhouse clubs in Eswatini’s MTN Premier League.
Representing the country’s army, the club have a rich history of success and continue to build on their legacy with experienced players driving the team forward in the 2025/26 season.
At the heart of Young Buffaloes is midfielder Mpendulo ‘Mpetha’ Dlamini, who joined the club in 2017 from rivals Mbabane Swallows.
Since arriving, Dlamini has been instrumental in the team’s dominance, contributing to an impressive haul of domestic silverware.
With Young Buffaloes, he has lifted two Eswatini Bank Cups, the Ingwenyama Cup, the MTN League and the 8Bet-sponsored Trade Cup in the 2024.
Prior to his move, at Mbabane Swallows, he secured the Ingwenyama Cup, Eswatini Bank Cup and the Castle Premier Challenge Top 8 Cup.
Beyond his on-field achievements, Dlamini is renowned for his humility off the pitch, earning admiration as a true gentleman in Eswatini football circles.
On the other hand, in the Young Buffaloes camp, longevity and loyalty are embodied by Sicelo Mkhwanazi, the club’s longest-serving player.
The experienced goalkeeper joined in the 2012/13 season from Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows and has had his moments with the squad in terms of contributions on the pitch.
His presence provides stability and leadership in a team known for its disciplined, army-inspired ethos.
As the 2025/26 MTN Premier League season unfolds, Young Buffaloes are making steady progress.
Currently sitting in fourth place, they are level on points with third-placed Rangers, though the latter hold a superior head-to-head record.
With their blend of veteran talent and competitive spirit, the army side remain firmly in contention for the league, where they are already in a good position to build on in the second round, with two games to play.
