MBABANE – The 2026 One Billion Rising Eswatini Festival has officially unveiled a star-studded artist line-up.
The festival, a cornerstone of the global movement to end violence against women and girls, will be hosted at the University of Eswatini (UNESWA), Kwaluseni Campus. Scheduled to take place on January 31 from 10 AM to 3 PM, the event operates under the evocative global theme: ‘Rising for our Bodies, Our Earth, Our Future.’
This year’s roster represents a cross-section of Eswatini’s most influential voices, blending spiritual resonance with contemporary rhythm. Leading the charge is gospel powerhouse Nothando Hlophe, whose participation brings a massive following and a message of hope. Straight from her album already making waves, her ‘Methodist Medley’ has surpassed six million views on YouTube. She is joined by the versatile Msimisi Sithole and the lyrical prowess of KRTC whose real name is Thamsanqa Sibandze, who also serves as the Festival Director a testament to the local creative industry’s deep-rooted commitment to this cause.
The lineup is further bolstered by Gcina Masuku, DJ Lady Zee, Dzeli The Poet, Thaifo Son and many other artists all promising to keep the mood alive throughout the day.
The move to the Kwaluseni Campus is no coincidence. It follows a landmark Memorandum of Understanding signed between UNESWA and One Billion Rising, spearheaded by Africa Regional Coordinator Colani Hlatjwako.
The One Billion Rising Eswatini Festival is inspired by the urgent need to address rising levels of gender-based violence in the country. The escalating femicide rates and the broader challenges of violence against women prompted a call to action, urging men to actively participate in ending the scourge. The festival aims to serve as a platform for education, empowerment and honouring a sense of shared responsibility in the fight against GBV.
