MBABANE – At least 17 local track athletes are competing for four spots, which will make the team to represent the country in Scotland and Ghana.
Athletics Eswatini (AE) has announced a long list of athletes set for potential selection to represent the nation at two major international events in 2026: The Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland and the African Athletics Championships in Accra, Ghana.
The selected athletes form a talented pool from which the final squads will be chosen, reflecting the growing depth and ambition within Eswatini’s athletics community.
These competitions offer valuable opportunities for the country’s athletes to showcase their abilities on continental and Commonwealth stages.
Two days ago, AE President, Zakhele Dlamini met the athletes at Mavuso Sports Centre. He extended his warm congratulations and delivered an inspiring message of motivation, urging them to maintain focus and determination as preparations intensify.
All attention now turns to this Saturday, when these athletes will compete in the AGN Track and Field League Three at Pilditch Stadium in Pretoria, South Africa. This competition serves as a crucial testing ground and stepping stone in the qualification process.
According to Victor ‘Mavikane’ Dlamini, AE’s Communications Officer, the team is set to depart for Pretoria on Friday, February 20, 2026 to participate in the AGN League Three as part of their preparations.
Plans are also in place for competition in Lesotho, where the squad will be further refined. With only four spots available in the final team, performances in these upcoming meets will be decisive.
