LOBAMBA – Minister for Information Communication and Technology (ICT) Savannah Maziya yesterday informed Parliament that she was fired.

Even though she did not state who exactly fired her, the minister informed MPs that she relayed the news to the attorney general.

“As a businessperson, I did contact the attorney general because I do not know how the procedures work. He told me that I cannot go because the person who hired me has not fired me. It is not easy for me. It has been two years of torture. But I still believe that if we work together, as a country we can go far,” she said.

The minister was providing responses to questions posed by Members of Parliament (MPs) during the portfolio committee debate of the ministry.

During the debate, Mbabane East MP Welcome Dlamini first said he was happy to see the minister in the House after reports circulated that she had been fired.

“Minister, can you tell us, are you aware of the reports that you were fired? Do you know who fired you?” Dlamini asked.

A similar question was posed by Mayiwane MP Sicelo Khungankhosi Dlamini, who also asked the minister to clarify if the law allows Cabinet minister to own newspapers.
