Njabulo Mnisi's calling was not announced with trumpets or bright lights. It came quietly, first through the slurred words of a drunken man on a bus. Back then, he was just a Form 2 student heading home after a long day at school. He had no idea that a simple question from a stranger would become a defining moment in his spiritual journey. Where a the man asked him his surname and he replied then the man starred at him and, with surprising clarity, declared, that in him he sees not just a young boy but someone who can make a great impact in the world by sharing the word of God.
When all that happened Mnisi laughed about it, but somehow the moment lingered. The following year, another stranger a woman this time spoke similar words to him. It was confusing for the young teen that had never imagined a life in ministry. At that point, Njabulo was not even involved in any church leadership he was just a quiet believer, not yet aware of the destiny God had in store for him.
All that changed one fateful weekend in Vuvulane. He was asked by the Nazarene Youth International (NYI) Vice President to lead a youth session. Despite his nerves he said yes and it was his first time doing anything like that. To his surprise, it went incredibly well. “Something shifted in me that day,” he said.
That shift only grew stronger when he was asked to preach during the main church service the following Sunday. It felt surreal, even overwhelming, however he managed because he was beginning to understand the strange words spoken to him before were not coincidences. They were divine confirmations.
From that moment, there was no turning back. Mnisi began to embrace the path God had laid out for him. He started preaching regularly and quickly saw the impact of God working through him. People gave their lives to Christ. Hearts were healed and lives transformed. “It’s been a journey full of surprises, challenges and blessings,” he shared.
Unexpected
Today, Mnisi is known not just as a preacher, but as a young leader with a deep sense of purpose and a powerful testimony. His story is a reminder that God's call often comes when we least expect it and sometimes through the most unexpected messengers. His favourite scripture, Jeremiah 1:5, has become his anchor which says “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
To young people still uncertain about their purpose, Mnisi offers this encouragement: “God has a plan for your life even when you do not see it. Trust Him. He will guide you,” he shared. Mnisi’s journey proves that divine purpose does not always wait for perfect conditions. Sometimes, it begins with a bus ride, a stranger’s voice and a heart willing to say yes.
