Now here is something important, you do not have to engage in debates with dream killers. You do not have to defend yourself, explain yourself and try to convert them into believers. Often, that only drains your energy and makes you doubt yourself even more. The best defence is silence. Guard your vision quietly but firmly. If you reveal it soon to the wrong person, they can smoother it before it has a chance to take roots. Not always with harsh words, sometimes it is with a raised eyebrow, a smirk or a sigh. Their doubts can plant seeds in your mind that grow into hesitation and hesitation is the enemy of progress. Some visions are best kept private until they are strong enough to stand on their own. That is why distance in this case is not about abandoning people, it is about protecting the fragile beginnings of something that could change your entire life.
The second type is the time waster; time wasters are not always malicious. Some are genuinely kind-hearted and even fun to be around, but they simply do not respect the value of a minute. They will call you at 11pm to discuss gossip that changes nothing in either of your lives.
They will invite you to hang out for hours without any meaningful purpose. They will rope you into activities that might be entertaining but do nothing to bring you closer to your dreams. If you allow them, they will slowly chip away at the hours you desperately need to invest in your goals. Remember this, money can be made, lost and made again, but time once spent, is gone forever. You cannot refund it; you cannot bring it back and certainly cannot even earn interest on wasted hours. Sometimes, time wasters mean well, they simply crave your company, but you must decide whether you want to live a life of comfort or a life of purpose. The uncomfortable truth is that you cannot have both all the time.
